Getting our bearings

The jet lag from losing an entire day to travel is pretty brutal, so after checking in to our hotel and hitting the shower, we thought it would be a good idea to do a little exploring to keep ourselves awake. There are lots of shiny things and flashing lights right outside our front door, so it didn’t take long to find something worth checking out. Check out the pictures.

First stop was an arcade, full to the brim with flashing lights and awesome music. The folks inside were a very interesting mix, from kids to men in suits. After a walk around to take it in, I headed straight for the mass of claw machines. As you can see from the video below, I came away empty handed and a few Yen short of where I started.

Next stop was the Park Hyatt, referred to as one of the finest hotels in the world and most recently known as the hotel in Lost in Translation. We headed straight for the 52nd floor to decide whether or not we wanted to get reservations for dinner in the New York Grill. After a quick look around we decided you only live once and a $300 dinner seemed like a good idea. Dinner is at 9 pm on Friday, when it’ll be nice and dark so we can take in the splendor of the Tokyo skyline at night.

Last up was a jump over to Times Square, the 14 story mall across the train tracks from our hotel. By this point we were pretty tired, so it was just a quick look around and then a quest to find some food. We ended up at a Thai restaurant where we had a delightful meal. With our eyelids weighing heavy, we sauntered across the tracks and back up to our room. If you didn’t already, check out the pictures.

Goodnight, Tokyo!
